🩺 Feeding Our Heroes: Saying Thank You to the Inova Fairfax NICU Team

This past weekend was incredibly emotional and deeply meaningful for the Sicilian Mom. On Saturday night and Sunday morning, I had the absolute honor of delivering fresh, hot, handmade Arancini and boxes of scratch-made Almond Cookies to the amazing night and day shift nursing teams at the Inova Fairfax Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU).

While I wasn't a patient in the NICU myself, this mission is deeply personal to me. Last year, I spent nearly two months at Inova Fairfax fighting for my life on ECMO and life support. The extraordinary nurses in the intensive care units provided everything for me when I couldn't care for myself. I am alive today, healthy, and able to bake because of the skill, dedication, and grace of Inova's healthcare heroes.

My goal is to return every three months to do a completely free appreciation delivery, rotating through until I have reached every single Intensive Care Unit in the hospital. I am especially looking forward to my upcoming rotations, as I hope the next one will bring me to the CICU / CCU, which is the unit where I spent the most time during my recovery.

Being able to walk back up to those doors, look these healthcare heroes in the eye, and say "thank you" with the food I make from scratch was a dream come true.

This is just the beginning of our quarterly community giving initiative to rotate through and thank all of the local critical care teams. Thank you, Inova nurses, for everything you do for our community every single day!
